Compartment Status Information
Compartment 24 includes a 5.3km section of the River Waveney from Stanley & Alder Carrs SSSI to Seven Mile Carr.
Within the compartment there are a number of historical sites including the site of post medieval Old Mill and the 18th century mansion Aldeby Hall, which has 16th to 17th century timber framing. Recorded archaeological findings include a Neolithic flint axe, prehistoric pits as well as medieval pottery. The improvement works along the floodbank began in 2006 and were completed in 2007 with the majority of the works involving floodbank strengthening.
Important mooring sites are the Broads Authority 24-hour moorings located along the left bank at Aldeby. Free fishing is available on this stretch of floodbank which can be easily accessed by a permissive footpath that runs along the floodbank for approximately 1000m before cutting through the grazing marshes towards Aldeby village and back to Aldeby Hall. This is the only permissive footpath within the compartment allowing informal access for angling.
