Compartment 17 Planning Application, original and resubmission

The planning application for the works was submitted to the Broads Authority on November 19th 2007. This is for flood defence works at Postwick Marsh adjacent to the left bank of the River Yare. There are few residential properties within the compartment with the land mainly used for grazing and arable purposes.

The proposed works are shown in the table below:

  Proposed Works

Install erosion protection
Retain piles
Install piles
Maintain existing defences
Maintain erosion protection
Length (m)

There is a public right of way running part the way through the compartment along the floodbank from the upstream end. Moorings are located nearby just beyond the upstream and downstream limits of the compartment.

After the initial planning application was rejected a revised application was submitted in November 2008. The application was accompanied by a report to inform an Appropriate Assessment, which has to be undertaken by the Broads Authority before the application can be considered.

The Appropriate Assessment has concluded that the scheme is not acceptable without the need for further studies to identify solutions to the flooding problems on the nearby SSSI.
