Name: Strumpshaw Number: 16 Location: Strumpshaw Common
Compartment Status Information
Compartment 16 includes a 3500m stretch of floodbank protecting Strumpshaw Common on the River Yare.
Within the compartment there are a few sites of historical interest, such as post medieval Strumpshaw drainage pump, as well as an archaeological finding site where Roman pottery was recorded.
The improvement works along the floodbank began in November 2004 and were completed in October 2005. The majority of the works involved floodbank strengthening with some stretches combined with installation of erosion protection where appropriate.
Although there are no public footpaths within the compartment, nature trails cut into the grazing marshes and follow part of the floodbank to allow public access for walkers and birdwatchers. There are many water skiing zones along the River Yare, one of which is immediately adjacent to the compartment.
