Compartment Description

Compartment 15 includes a 2876m stretch of floodbank protecting Buckenham Marshes on the River Yare.
Within this compartment there are a few historical sites such as the site of the former Buckenham drainage pump and the site of a post medieval wind pump.

In November 2004 the compartment underwent improvement works along the floodbank which were then completed in October 2005. Most of the works involved floodbank strengthening as well as a 350m stretch of floodbank rollback.

There are opportunities for walking within the compartment as a public footpath runs along the floodbank from a point opposite the Beauchamp Arms public house downstream to Cantley where it links up with other footpaths, creating circular routes. Access onto Buckenham Marshes is gained via an existing track from Station Road which allows good opportunities for walkers and enables birdwatchers to access the RSPB bird hide located beside the Claxton drainage pump.

There are excellent fishing opportunities within this compartment with a "free fishing" area along the river bank accessed by an informal footpath following off Station Road. On the opposite bank (compartment 18), the Great Yarmouth and Norfolk County Angling Association lease the riverbank between Beauchamp Arms and the Claxton drainage pump and hold a fishing competition along this stretch of river between March and October.

There are also many water skiing zones along the River Yare, one of which is immediately adjacent to the compartment.
