Compartment 6a Planning Application

A planning application (reference 2009/0300) for the works was submitted to the Broads Authority in November 2009. This is for flood defence works in the area of Hickling, Horsey and Somerton on the right bank of the River Thurne. A planning decision is due early 2010.


The proposed works are shown in the table below:

The area is well known for its rich and varied wildlife. The compartment includes the Upper Thurne Broads and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Extensive ecological surveys have been undertaken and a programme of mitigation works will be delivered prior to the start of the flood defence works.
