Name: Compartment 9, Ashby with Oby Location: River Bure, Ashby with Oby Marshes
Compartment 9 is comprised of approximately 8500m of continuous floodbank on the left bank of the River Bure and covers an area of 1799 hectares. There are three designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) within the compartment boundaries; Burgh Common and Muckfleet Marshes, Trinity Broads and Hall Farm Fen. Burgh Common and Muckfleet Marshes and Hall Farm fen are designated Special Protection Areas (SPA), Special Areas of Conservation (cSAC) and Ramsar sites under European and International legislation. Trinity Broads SSSI is designated a Special Protection Area. A large proportion of the compartment is managed under either Tier 1 (permanent grassland), 2 (extensive grassland), 3 (wet grassland), 4A (Arable reversion to permanent grassland) and fen management practices as ESAs (Environmentally Sensitive Areas). Within the flood compartment there are a number of residential dwellings including the community of Billockby and a proportion of Filby. A number of public rights of way are located within the boundaries of compartment 9.
