Compartment Information

Name: Compartment 6, Ludham and Potter Heigham
Location: River Thurne, Ludham and Potter Heigham Marshes

Compartment Description

Compartment 6 on the River Thurne comprises approximately 10000m of continuous floodbank on the right bank of the river Thurne and covers an area of 654 hectares. There are two Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the compartment boundaries, Potter Heigham Marshes and Upper Thurne Broads and Marshes, which are designated as Special Protection Areas (SPA), Special Areas of Conservation (cSAC) and Ramsar sites under European and International legislation. The majority of the compartment is subject to Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) payments and fall within Tiers 1 (permanent grassland) and 2 (extensive grassland). There are a number of residential dwellings within the compartment and camping and caravan ground is situated to the west of Bridge Road, which dissects the compartment from north to south.
