Compartment Description

Compartment 37 includes a 4537m stretch of floodbank on the right bank of the River Bure between Upton Boat Dyke and Acle Boat Dyke. Within this compartment there are several historical and archaeological sites including remains of St Marys Priory Cell, post medieval former wind pumps e.g. Fishley Mill as well as World War II structures.

There are excellent opportunities for walking within the compartment as a public footpath, partly made up of the Weavers Way long distance footpath, runs the entire length of the floodbank. Links onto the floodbank footpath are provided by a footpath that cuts across the marshes near Fishley and the A1064 as well as at Upton and Acle Dykes at each end of the compartment. A permissive footpath also links from Acle Dyke to Acle Bridge. Either side of Acle Bridge and upstream of Three Rivers Sailing Club are notable places for fishing from boats. Acle Bridge and Upton Dyke provides a number of private moorings, both short term and long term, as well as short stay moorings for summer visitors. The sheet piling adjacent to Fishley Marshes is also used for informal moorings.

This compartment has recently received planning permission and improvement works are underway.
