Compartment Description

Compartment 32 covers an area of 81 hectares and comprises a 2986m stretch of floodbank on the right bank of the River Waveney. The marshes are subject to Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) payments and fall within the Tier 2 (extensive grassland) category. The floodbanks fall into Tier 1 (permanent grassland) category. There are no designated sites in this compartment. Two public footpaths run between Somerleyton and the river, either side of the boatyard and marina, part of one of the paths forms the Angles Way, and a public bridleway runs from Herringfleet Road across the marshes to Herringfleet Mill. The bridleway also links to new permissive paths on the Herringfleet Hills where the Broads Authority and Somerleyton Estate have established a public car park. There are no residential properties in this compartment.
