Compartment 28 Planning Application (main works)

The planning application for the works was submitted to the Broads Authority (via Waveney District Council) on 25th November 2005 and was approved on the 3rd February 2006 and was granted on 31st March 2006. This is for flood defence works at Barnby, Carlton and Share Marshes adjacent to the right bank of the River Waveney.

The proposed works are shown in the table below:

In Compartment 28, similarly to elsewhere in the Waveney Valley, the floodbank, folding and rond support a number of trees and significant areas of scrub within parts of the river corridor. In order to undertake the proposed flood defence improvements and subsequent maintenance, a program of tree and scrub clearance was undertaken during the 2005/06 winter period.

Following receipt of planning approval, BESL started the improvement works in March/April 2006 and were completed in 2007. A second phase of works to complete the defences adjacent to Petos Marsh were due to start in 2009. These works were delayed whilst discussions were continued with the landowner of Petos Marsh and the owners of the adjacent properties.
