Name: Compartment 22 - Chet Location: Pyes Mill to Nogdam End, River Chet
The south side of the River Chet forms part of a large compartement that extends along the River Yare, Hadddiscoe Cut and River Waveney to Burgh St Peter.
An improvement scheme was completed between Nogdam and the confluence with the River Yare in 2005, with piling in the setback areas subsequently removed in 2007-2008.
Most of the floodbank length between Nogdam and Pye's Mill is protected by a mixture of timber and steel piling. Much of the piling is in poor condition and starting to fail, causing a potential hazard to boats and risk to the flood defences. Following a programme of maintenance work to prolong the life of the defences in 2005, a major improvement scheme is planned to start in 2013.
The flood defences provide protection to important areas of grazing marsh, fen and woodland. There is no public access to the floodbank but there is a small area of public open space associated with the moorings at Pye's Mill.
