Compartment Description

Compartment 13 on the right bank of the River Yare extends along approximately 750m of continuous floodbank and covers an area of 96 hectares. There are no designated sites and none of the compartment is subject to ESA (Environmentally Sensitive Area) payments. Cantley Sugar Beet factory is located adjacent to the river Yare in compartment 13 and there is a relatively large area of settling basins within the compartment. Public footpaths extend along the floodbank and elsewhere in the southern section of the compartment. The Norwich to Great Yarmouth railway line runs from east to west adjacent to Cantley Sugarbeet Factory.

Cantley Parish Staithe
Located at the western end of Compartment 13 the Cantley Parish slipway marks the boundary between Compartments 13 and 14. A planning application was submitted in April 2009 for improvements works to the Parish Staithe and for the renewal of flood defences to Cantley Sugar Beet Factory and completing the defences to Cantley Marshes.
