Compartment Information

Name: Compartment 11 Breydon
Location: Breydon Water, River Yare

Breydon Water is located at the eastern end of Compartment 11 (Yare). An internationally designated wetland, the estuary supports substantial numbers of wintering and passage birds which utilise the mudflats for feeding and the saltmarsh for roosting. The floodbank provides protection to the Norwich to Great Yarmouth railway line, the Acle Straight road and Vauxhall Holiday Park. There is a footpath from Yarmouth to Reedham which forms part of the Weavers' Way and Wherryman's Way trails.

Planning permission was granted for the defence improvement works in March 2013.

Work to improve the section of bank between the A12 bridge and Railway Marsh started in April 2013 and is expected to be completed by December 2013.
